Our Work

Affordable Housing

In 2022, The New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) selected the ReAL Edgemere CLT to acquire and redevelop 119 vacant lots in Edgemere through a competitive process. In keeping with the 2017 Resilient Edgemere Community Plan, the CLT plans to develop a portion of these lots as elevated affordable homes in cooperation with a to-be-selected development partner. The CLT’s work would represent a substantial expansion in Edgemere’s resilient housing stock and the most dramatic expansion in homeownership opportunities in nearly two decades.

Open Space

The CLT is seeking to active approximately eighteen sites throughout Edgemere as open space for the community. The CLT is seeking opportunities with local partners to activate vacant lots to bring new passive recreation, shade structures, urban agriculture, renewable energy generation, stormwater management and venues to celebrate the cultural vibrancy of Edgemere.

During Spring 2024, the CLT and partners began hosting workshop events to envision possibilities for vacant lots in Edgemere in partnership with residents.

This work will involve developing stewardship models that could make long-term ownership of open space lots viable for the CLT and ensure the local flora and fauna will continue to thrive.

Organizing + Advocacy

The CLT is dedicated to building community power and giving residents an authentic voice in how land is stewarded to build a more resilient and equitable Edgemere.

The ReAL Edgemere CLT supports the NYC Community Land Initiative, an alliance of social justice and affordable housing organizations committed to winning housing for all New Yorkers.
